The site is information, not a contract
Nothing on this website is an offer to enter into a contract, and nothing here creates a binding agreement between us. A contract exists only once we have issued a written quote for your specific project and you have accepted it. Until that point, everything on this site is general information.
Quotes and estimates
Quotes are issued in writing after a site visit. A quote covers the scope, materials and price set out in it, and nothing else. It is valid for the period stated on the quote itself.
Where work uncovers a condition that was not visible at the site visit, such as rot inside a wall at the ledger connection or ground conditions that change the footing requirement, we stop, put the finding and the cost of addressing it in writing, and wait for your decision before continuing. Nothing is added to an invoice that you have not agreed to in advance.
Published prices and the cost calculator
The cost ranges on this site, including those in the cost calculator and the pricing tables, are general market data drawn from published 2026 Ontario and Ottawa cost guides. They are planning figures.
They are not a quote, not an offer, and not a promise of price. Published sources disagree with each other, particularly at the upper end for composite decking, and we say so where that is the case. The calculator has no way of knowing your site's footing depth, access, grade, or whether your wall can take a ledger connection, all of which move the real number. Only a written quote following a site visit reflects what your project actually costs.
Code and permit information
Information on this site about the Ontario Building Code and City of Ottawa permit requirements, including height thresholds, guard heights, baluster spacing and footing depth, is provided as general guidance and reflects our understanding at the time of writing. Codes, fee schedules and municipal requirements change, and how they apply depends on your specific property, its zoning and any easements on it.
Do not treat this site as a substitute for confirmation from the City of Ottawa or from a qualified professional on your particular project. We verify current requirements for each job we quote.
No guarantee or warranty is made on this site
We do not publish a blanket guarantee or warranty. Any workmanship warranty that applies to work we carry out is set out in your written quote, job by job, and only the terms of that written quote apply. Statements on this website do not extend, replace or add to it.
Manufacturer warranties on materials, where they exist, are provided by the manufacturer on their own terms and are passed to you as supplied. We do not administer them.
Scheduling and seasonal work
Footing excavation and concrete work are not viable through the deep-freeze months in Ottawa, and schedules are affected by weather, permit and inspection timing, and material availability. Timelines discussed before a written quote are indicative. Where a schedule forms part of an agreement it will be stated in the written quote.
Your responsibilities
If you engage us, you are responsible for giving us accurate information about the property, telling us about any known easement, covenant, or restriction affecting where a structure can sit, disclosing the location of private underground services such as irrigation lines, invisible fencing, septic components or private electrical runs, and ensuring we can reasonably access the work area on the agreed dates.
We arrange locates for public utilities where required. We cannot locate private underground services that you have not told us about, and we are not responsible for damage to services whose existence was not disclosed.
Intellectual property
The text, layout, photographs and other material on this site belong to Deck Builders Experts or are used with permission. You may read, print and share pages for your own non-commercial use. You may not republish, resell or redistribute the content, or use it to train an automated system, without our written permission.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your reliance on general information published on this site. Our liability in connection with work we actually perform is governed by the written quote for that work.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or under Ontario consumer protection legislation.

Where we link to an external resource, we do not control it and are not responsible for its content or its accuracy.
Privacy
Information you send through this site is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version on this page at the time you use the site is the one that applies. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply in it. Any dispute is subject to the courts of Ontario.
