Water Changes Every Pool Deck Material Decision
Two things drive material choice around a pool and they pull in different directions. The first is grip. A surface that is fine dry can be genuinely dangerous with a film of water on it and a kid running across it, so board texture and the direction of the grain matter more here than anywhere else on a property. The second is heat. Bare feet on a dark composite board in full afternoon sun is a real problem, and it is the single most common complaint we hear about pool decks that were specified purely on looks. Lighter colours run measurably cooler, and cedar runs cooler than a dark composite. Then there is the water itself. Splash-out carries pool chemistry onto the surface and down into the frame, which is why fastener and hardware choice around a pool is not the same as on a dry deck.
