Who we are
Deck Builders Experts is a deck building, replacement and repair business serving Ottawa, Ontario. You can reach us by phone at (343) 505-3958 or by email at info@deckbuildingexperts.ca for any question about this policy or about information we hold on you.
What we collect
Information you give us. When you submit the quote form, call, or email, we collect what you choose to provide: your name, phone number, email address, the property address or area the work relates to, and whatever you tell us about the project. We ask for the minimum needed to prepare a quote and get back to you.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, this site records standard technical information when you visit: IP address, browser type and version, device type, pages viewed, time spent on each page, and the site or search that referred you.
We do not ask for and do not want financial account numbers, government identification numbers, or any health information. Please do not send them through the form.
The analytics tools on this site
Google Analytics 4. We use GA4 to understand how people find and move through the site, which pages are useful and which are not. GA4 sets cookies and collects your IP address (which Google truncates), approximate location derived from it, device and browser details, and the pages you view. It is aggregate reporting. We do not use it to identify individual visitors.
Microsoft Clarity. We use Clarity to see how pages perform in practice, through aggregated heatmaps and session recordings of on-page behaviour such as scrolling, clicks and mouse movement. Clarity masks text entered into form fields by default, so what you type into the quote form is not captured in a recording. We use it to find layout and usability problems, not to watch individuals.
Both tools are operated by third parties who process data on their own infrastructure, which may be outside Canada. Their handling is governed by their own privacy terms.
Opting out. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using Google's browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. For Microsoft Clarity, opting out of Microsoft's advertising and analytics personalisation is available through Microsoft's own privacy dashboard. Browser-level controls also work: blocking third-party cookies, using private browsing, or enabling a tracking-prevention setting will stop most of this collection. None of it affects your ability to use the site or to contact us.
Why we use your information
We use what you give us to reply to your enquiry, prepare and send a written quote, arrange and carry out a site visit, schedule and complete work you engage us for, and keep records of quotes and jobs for accounting and warranty purposes. We use the automatically collected information to keep the site working, to understand which content is useful, and to protect against abuse of the form.
We do not sell your information. We do not rent, trade, or share it with advertisers or data brokers. We do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only where it is necessary: with service providers who operate parts of this site and our systems on our behalf, such as our web host, email provider, and the analytics tools named above; with a specialist trade, such as a licensed electrician, where your project requires one and only to the extent needed to do that work; and where we are required to by law, a court order, or a lawful request from a public authority.
Any service provider handling information for us is limited to the purpose we engaged them for.
Form submissions and spam protection
The quote form on this site is protected against automated abuse. That protection assesses technical signals from your browser and connection to distinguish a person from a bot. It does not read the content of your message.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become jobs are kept for up to two years, so we have context if you come back to us. Records connected to quoted or completed work are kept for seven years in line with standard business and tax record-keeping. Analytics data is retained according to each tool's own retention settings.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask for a copy of it, ask us to correct anything inaccurate, ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it, and withdraw consent for us to contact you. Email info@deckbuildingexperts.ca or call (343) 505-3958 and we will respond within thirty days. There is no charge for a reasonable request.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a privacy concern, you can raise it with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
We limit access to personal information to the people who need it to do the work, and we use reputable service providers for hosting and email. No method of transmitting information over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot promise absolute security. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Privacy Commissioner as PIPEDA requires.
Children
This site is meant for adults arranging work on a property. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Links to other sites
Where we link to an external site, such as a municipal or code resource, that site has its own privacy policy and we are not responsible for its practices.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update it on this page. Material changes to how we handle information collected through the form will be described here rather than made quietly.
